Where Every Great Story Begins

A publishing house built by editors, designers, and booksellers who believe great books deserve a fair deal.

Our Story

A Full House for People Who Write Books

Ferncliff Books began with a simple frustration: too many good manuscripts were dying in inboxes, and too many published books were earning their authors almost nothing. So we built the house we wished existed — every craft under one roof, one team accountable from first draft to tenth printing.

Today our editors, ghostwriters, designers, and publicists work side by side in Asheville and remotely across four time zones. We publish fiction, non-fiction, children's books, memoir, and practical guides — and every author keeps 100% of their royalties and full creative control.

Browse the bookshop to see what that partnership produces, or meet the authors behind the covers.

What We Stand By

Three Promises on Every Project

Your Voice, Amplified

We edit, design, and position — we never overwrite. The book that launches still sounds unmistakably like you.

100% Royalties, Always

Flat, quoted fees for our work — then every royalty dollar is yours, on every copy, forever.

Honest Scoping

If your manuscript only needs proofreading, we'll say so — even when a bigger package would earn us more.

Authors Are Partners

Proofs, covers, and launch plans come to you for approval. Nothing ships without your sign-off.

Inside the Studio

Editors, Writers & Designers at One Table

Most publishing spreads your book across strangers: a freelance editor here, a cover marketplace there, a distribution form you fill out alone. At Ferncliff, the editor who shaped chapter four sits ten feet from the designer choosing its type — and both of them know your launch date.

That closeness shows up in the details: interior layouts that echo the cover, marketing copy that actually read the book, and launch weeks where nothing falls through a crack between vendors.
